Until We Meet Again

synopsisThey exist in two different centuries, but their love defies time.
Cassandra craves drama and adventure, so the last thing she wants is to spend her summer marooned with her mother and stepfather in a snooty Massachusetts shore town. But when a dreamy stranger shows up on their private beach claiming it’s his own—and that the year is 1925—she is swept into a mystery a hundred years in the making.
As she searches for answers in the present, Cassandra discovers a truth that puts their growing love—and Lawrence’s life—into jeopardy. Desperate to save him, Cassandra must find a way to change history…or risk losing Lawrence forever.

reviewI received a digital ARC of this book from Sourcebooks Fire via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. By no means have my review been affected and/or influenced.
If you have not yet read Until We Meet Again, you’re missing a lot. I’m telling you, you need to read this book for your health! As I have experienced, I honestly regret putting off this book and letting it sit on my shelf Kindle App for the longest time (What was I thinking???) before finally picking it up.
Until We Meet Again‘s story isn’t really something new. I’ve seen movies like Il Mare or even Frequency, where the characters are able to communicate from someone from a different time. But what makes this story different is that Cassandra and Lawrence are able to see each other. And rather than time travelling, there’s an “in between” place with an indefinite time (you really can’t tell if it’s 1925 or 2015, it’s just simply the beach) where the story mostly unfolds and that is something I haven’t seen or read before.
But of course, like any other stories, complications do exist. First, they can’t live in the beach forever. Second, someone’s life is in danger. Third, their actions can change the course of history and lastly, the obvious one, they live from different eras. So how can their love be possible? I guess it’s the magic  between Lawrence and Cassandra that made it possible.
Aside from the angle of time “travel”, I also noticed the writing style of the book. It’s easy to read even with alternating POVs. I also love the use of 20s slang and a vivid description of the era that made it even believable. Also, the continuity was handled in a way that it didn’t confuse me at all since there are 2 timelines happening simultaneously for the characters.
But among a lot of things, the ending is my favorite part. It’s just PERFECT. It was one of the most heart warming endings I’ve ever read. I can’t even–. I’m not the type who easily cries when reading tear jerker books but this one really had me crying…almost.
Until We Meet Again is most certainly a book that I would want my friends to read and something I would read over and over again.

  • Romance – Cassandra and Lawrence had me rooting for their love story. Talk about against all odds. I just wanted them to be together like it’s the only thing that matters in the world. And you know me, I’m a sucker for romance.
  • Didn’t see it coming moments – I really got served with a whole lot of plot twists, like, a  3 layer cake kind of plot twist and I won’t spoil!
  • Ending – No need to elaborate, just read the book!!!

  1. The cover and the blurb had my interest from the get go but after reading some mixed reviews I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this book and whether I should give it a go. The premise is clever and is really interesting, the romance aspect has my shipper heart dancing and the setting of the beach town with the historical element and time travel all sound like my type of read. I think I need to ignore the negative reviews and just decide for myself whether it’s the book I think I’d love.

    1. It’s worth a shot! I did see mixed reviews for this one and that made me stall on reading this one and it turned out to be a bad decision. This is a great book after all. But I see how it has a different appeal to other people, some say it was cheesy and all that but it worked for me. So I guess you just have to give it a go and know. 😉
